Hey all,
Well I've been to Iceland last week for a student exchange programm, our goal was to see how this land was profound and still profounds!
As many of you don't Iceland is growing with 2 cm per year. This isn't very fast because other plates move a lot faster then the American and Eurazia plate. But the unique thing about these plates is that they are dividing. Therefore there is a giant fissure at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean (the Mid-Atlantic-rift!) but the most unique thing that lies also on this fissure is Iceland. This islands has raised above sea-level because of the simple fact it lies above a hotspot, that means that magam is very near to the krust of the eath and it pushes they earth up. Iceland is in geologic terms very young and is still very vulcanic active.
But my question now is : Did you know all this and if you do isn't this fasinating to see and understand why this can happen and then understand how lands can be profound by earth itself, and this is the way the earth is active!
