Hi,
I have my topic, but now my problem is whether i go towards the political side of things or the social side! If i went over to the political side i would probably like to look at something like, why thatcher shut the union and mines down... but if i went towards the social side it would be more towards how people's lives were affected, and to what degree where they affected, maybe even a comparrison between different areas.
if i was going to do something social, there is this great web site that i found, including a lot of photographs from the time
http://www.strike84.co.uk/
Just some of my first thoughts and ideas, am i heading in the right direction, or is that not really what an IA is all about?

Hi,
hope you don't mind that i keep posting things, but if i post links on here and stuff its just a good place for me to go back to them, ('cause i'll lose them if i just write them down!!! )
This is a forum where people are discussing how their own lives and other people's around them have been affected by the stricks

An excellent use of the forum and a good way of keeping a 'logbook' of the sort of things you have done during your research.

Hi,

been doing some reaserch on the miners strike and though that i might like to do something about either how the miners strike changed life in britain (afterwards)
or on the way life changed for the miners and their famillies during the strike, the hardships they had to go through.

I'm sorry to say Mr Jones, that im not overly entirly completly sure what an IA is. From my reasearch so far and looking at example i've found on the internet it seems to me be a sort of discussion not particulalry an anwser to a question, which includes the evaluation of certain sources. Is this right????

I'll continue doing reaserch

Hi,

Found some potentially interesting sources on the BBC website from all different people during the strike.

http://www.bbc.co.uk...ories_456.shtml

I found the one about the man who still worked during the strike to be particularly interesting.

Anyway just putting them down really so i don't forget where i found them
bye

Hi,

Just come across this article about press during the strikes, I don't know if you've read it but it's really interesting! I particularly liked the bit about Arthur Scargill being Hitler.

http://www.workersli...y.org/node/2366

I had a look to see if i could find the picture. I found two that could fit. I think its probably the second (arthur_scargill_making_news). Might not be of any use but i found it interesting background knowledge if nothing else.

Good stuff. Did you get in touch with Grace? It would be useful if you could borrow her books.

hi mr jones

have you seen the film Billy Elliot? I was thinking about maybe using a bit of that as one of my sources. My idea is that it shows the chaos at the picket lines, clashes between armies of police and striking miners, and the shame of crossing the picket line. I know that it might not be particularly reliable source of evidence, but i could speak about that couldn't I.

Do you think that is a good idea for one of my sources or should i perhaps choose a piece of text, for example one of the interviews from the BBC web site

My other source will probably be a photograph as they are so powerful from that perticular era and event.

Yes great film. The music is especially good, Town Called Malice etc. Would it make a good source? I don't see why not. The ideal source is one in which you have plenty of positive and negative things to say.

The two sources are really not all that important and can a few can be selected and the best chosen to go into the IA.

Hi soz i haven't replied, but here you go:

Tarr - finish the lenin work sheets

Jones - read and note Steve Pillips 'The Cold War' (section 5 p. 174-183) and bradley Lightbody 'The cold war' (section 5 p. 66-80) You have to be prepared to hand your notes in and be ready for a factual text on the content.

Think thats all (well that's all i've got written down)
Of corse then you have your IA.

Any way have fun with that lot, hope your work is going all right and your holidays not too boring.
